Hi Pikmin Bloom Community and Dev Team,
As an active player who loves the core philosophy of this game, I’ve been thinking deeply about how to address the persistent issue of “spoofing” (GPS cheating) without just relying on passive bans.
Instead of fighting an endless war against cheaters, why not provide a legitimate, monetizable, and high-effort official alternative? I’d like to propose a new feature called the “Warp Pass” (任意門). This system balances business revenue, fair play, and the core philosophy of walking.
Here is the complete framework of the proposal:
1. The Core Prerequisite: Earn the Right to Warp
To ensure this doesn’t ruin the “walking game” philosophy (Niantic’s core mission), players cannot just buy this pass freely.
-
The Rule: Players must complete a high-threshold daily or weekly physical task in the real world (e.g., Walk 10,000 steps + Plant 10,000 flowers) just to unlock the eligibility to purchase or use a Warp Pass.
-
The Impact: Even if a player warps globally, they still walked a massive amount in reality. This forces former spoofers to actually get outside and walk.
2. Tiered Pricing & Ecosystem Control
Based on the psychology of “higher freedom costs more,” the Warp Pass should be split into three tiers using price leverage to balance the global mushroom ecosystem:
- Random Warp Pass (The Blind Box) —
Base Price
-
How it works: Teleports the player to a random mushroom anywhere in the world that guaranteed has an empty slot. Crucially, it features a “Global Non-Repeat” algorithm.
-
Why it works: It’s safe and highly engaging. Players cannot coordinate to bully specific high-value local mushrooms. The non-repeat feature allows casual players to enjoy a “digital sofa travel,” collecting unique postcards from places they’ve never been (e.g., a tiny church in Iceland or a pier in Australia).
- Map Select Pass (The Extended Arm) —

Mid Price
- How it works: Allows players to tap mushrooms slightly outside their current visible phone screen radius. Perfect for severe weather (heavy rain/snow) or when a player is unwell but wants to join nearby community raids.
- Custom Coordinate Pass (Precision Strike) —

Premium Price (e.g., 3x Base Price)
-
How it works: Allows inputting precise global coordinates (e.g., Tokyo Disneyland or the Eiffel Tower).
-
Why it works: Since it costs 3x more, hardcore players/former spoofers must calculate their costs carefully. They can no longer abuse the system for free.
The Win-Win Outcome
-
For Niantic: It taps into a massive, previously unmonetizable spoofer traffic, converting grey-area players into high-paying, high-engagement users while keeping DAU walking data intact. More importantly, once a legitimate paid path exists, Niantic holds the absolute moral high ground to implement a Zero-Tolerance Permaban Policy. No more excuses for cheaters.
-
For Legit/Local Players: Free mushroom attempts remain a daily bonus, while paid warping becomes a premium right. The randomness of the base pass protects local neighborhoods from being overwhelmed. Most importantly, it completely wipes out zero-cost spoofers, restoring a clean, fair environment.
I have compiled a more detailed conceptual document here (feel free to check the logic!):
I would love to hear what the community and the dev team think about this! Would you use a “Random Warp Pass” to collect postcards from all over the world?
