I’m a newish rural player trying to get more variety, so today I went to the mall and walked laps around it, inside and out. On the detector I saw all kinds of cool Pikmin types - electronic store, clothing store, restaurant, makeup, bakery, cinema- the things that are in our mall. However, I walked about 7500 steps, planting flowers the whole time, and all I got to pop for seedling expeditions were three roadsides. I did use the detector and get one clothing store. Then, once I got home, as a last hope I posted a photo in my lifelog from inside the mall and got one more roadside. So frustrating!! What am I doing wrong?

I don’t think you can do much more than that to be honest.
Just walking almost never gets me something different than forest, park and roadside so I usually save my detector for when I either stumble on a category I don’t have (not very often tbh) or I use it where I know there’s a decor I want.
